Neuropsychological Assessment
Evaluates strengths and weaknesses in thinking abilities such as memory, concentration, reasoning, and assesses mood and behaviour. A cognitive profile is obtained compared to demographic factors such as age.
Assessment informs diagnosis, assists with treatment planning, and is used to monitor improvement or decline in cognitive status over time.
Assessment involves:
1. face-to-face clinical interview; and
2. range of paper-and-pencil and verbal tasks, mood and behaviour scales.
How long?
Assessment takes in average 4 hours face-to-face contact (this can vary).
Following this, the neuropsychologist evaluates the history, presentation and findings, and prepares a written report.
A feedback session can be arranged upon need.
An average consultation (including face-to-face session, evaluation, report-writing) takes about 8 hours, and will be substantially longer for medicolegal referrals.
